The Big Surprise 2000

I remember the very first time I tried a Philly cheese steak at a little fast-food restaurant at the mall in Atlanta, Georgia. I remember it was back in '97 when we had our family reunion in Georgia. I had enjoyed a Philly cheese steak with some curly fries and a large soda that year. From that point on I always wanted to try Philly cheese steaks because I was amazed how good they looked when I saw them for the first time on TV. I knew that there were going to come a point and time where I would try an authentic Philly cheese steak that the city of brother love produced in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Three years later, I finally got that chance. My mom had went on her first time ever cruise in '00. I remember when she went on a cruise to Jamaica and Puerto Rico and she told me when she came back from her cruise that she was going to see if there was a restaurant that was open because she was changing in Philly. It must have been like 6 AM in the morning and my mom was trying to find a restaurant that was open at that time where she could buy a Philly cheese steak.  My mom called me on the phone and told me the good news and that she was able to find a restaurant that was open that had fresh hot authentic Philly cheese steaks. I remember talking to my mom before she had went on her cruise about Philly cheese steaks and she knew how much I wanted to try the real thing.

When my mom finally arrived back home, I greeted her by giving her a hug and that's when she pulled out the bag that had real grub in it from the restaurant. This Philly cheese steak was huge on a hoagie roll that was greasy from the cheese steak that was chopped up fine with the cheese melting all over the hot steak. I remember tasting some potato chunks in the sandwich. I remember how glad I was to see my mom because she was gone for over a week on her cruise.

Meanwhile, my mom had explained to me what all she had to go through getting the cheese steak and making sure that a restaurant that would sell them during that time of the morning was open. I was grateful and I thanked my mom because I would have been glad if I only got a souvenir. My mom brought back 2 t-shirts, one was from Jamaica and the other one was from Puerto Rico. I enjoyed the cheese steaks and I loved the t-shirts. I get a taste for cheese steaks from time to time. During that same year my mom had graduated from her piano class and I remember they had great grub at her graduation, too. Philly cheese steaks are great and you can enjoy them with some potato chips or fries and don't forget to wash them down with some soda!
